What a good one does
Updated
A good review request goes to every customer soon after the job, uses their name, mentions the work and links straight to your Google review form. Ask once and remind once at most. Never offer a reward or ask only the happy customers. Send people to Google, not Yelp, because Yelp asks businesses not to request reviews at all.

Mistakes to avoid. We see these often.
- Asking only customers you know are happy. That's review gating, and Google doesn't allow it.
- Offering a discount, gift card or prize draw entry for a review.
- Asking for Yelp reviews, which Yelp says can hurt your rating.
- Asking staff to collect a set number of reviews, or reviews that name them.
- Pressing customers to write a review while you're still on site.
- Replying to a patient's review in a way that confirms they are a patient.
Questions people ask.Short answers.
Can I offer a reward for a review?
Not on Google. Google prohibits incentives for any review. US federal rules ban rewards tied to a positive or negative review, so the simple answer is no reward at all.
Can I ask only my happy customers?
No. Google doesn't allow selectively asking for positive reviews, and the FTC says inviting only satisfied customers may be deceptive. Ask everyone the same way.
Where do I get my Google review link?
In your Business Profile, open Read reviews, then Get more reviews, and copy the link. Google says the QR code can only be made in a computer browser.
What should a dental office do about a bad review?
Reply briefly and invite the person to call, without confirming they are a patient or mentioning treatment. HHS has fined practices for disclosing patient information in review replies.
