You ask three agencies what local SEO will cost per month. One quotes a monthly figure with no detail. One says “it depends.” One wants a call first. None of them tell you what’s in the box.

So here it is line by line, for owners of US local service businesses in fifteen trades, across home services, health practices and auto repair. We start with our own prices, because we publish them. The only outside prices we quote are ones we read on the seller’s own pricing or help page. We don’t quote “industry averages”, because we haven’t found a survey we can trace to its original data.

Key takeaways

  • Damex packages run from $350 to $3,000 a month per location, with local SEO in each, all listed on one pricing page.
  • Google Business Profile is free to create. You only pay if someone manages it for you.
  • Google Ads bills per click and never charges more than 30.4 times your average daily budget in a month.
  • Local Services Ads bill per valid lead, and a missed call in business hours can count if the caller waits more than 20 seconds.
  • Meta can spend up to 75% over a daily budget on a good day, but never more than 7 times it in a week.
  • Judge every line by cost per booked job, not by cost per click or lead.

What do the cost terms on a marketing quote mean?

Most quotes mix two kinds of money. One is the fee you pay the agency for its work. The other is ad spend, which goes to Google or Meta. Knowing which is which is most of the battle when you compare local SEO pricing packages.

  • Agency or management fee. What you pay for the work itself, usually monthly and often per location.
  • Ad spend. What Google or Meta charges for your ads, ideally billed to your own account.
  • Cost per click (CPC). Google Search ads charge when someone clicks.
  • Cost per lead. Local Services Ads charge when a customer calls, messages or books through the ad, and only for valid leads.
  • Daily budget. The average you tell Google or Meta to spend each day, which both may exceed on some days within fixed limits.
  • Setup fee. A one-off charge at the start. Damex packages have none, but many quotes include one.
  • Per location. Each address has its own profile, listings and reviews, so local work is usually priced per location.

An agency fee buys work and ad spend buys attention, so never compare a quote that mixes them with one that doesn’t.

Why does it matter what each line costs in 2026?

Because the platforms bill by rules most owners never read, and Local Services Ads started changing in August 2026. Missed calls can be charged leads, and every platform caps spend by a formula. Knowing the caps tells you your worst month before it happens.

The point isn’t fear, it’s planning. A $30 daily budget on Google can never bill more than $912 in a month, so you can decide calmly whether you could spend that in a slow month.

How much does local SEO cost per month?

At Damex, local SEO isn’t sold on its own. It comes inside every package, next to AI visibility and answer-first content, and covers listings across the directories AI engines and maps read for your trade: a one-time fix on Starter, and monthly upkeep from Essentials up. Service and city pages are written as part of each package’s monthly articles. Every price is on one pricing page.

Package Per month What it includes
Starter $350 10 tracked questions, a one-time source and listing fix, 2 articles a month, a monthly snapshot
Essentials $750 25 tracked questions, source and listing upkeep, Google Business Profile care, 4 articles a month, a monthly snapshot, a quarterly senior strategist review
Growth $1,500 Everything in Essentials, 8 articles a month, the reviews program, best-of list outreach, a named senior strategist, a monthly report
Authority $3,000 Everything in Growth, 50 tracked questions, 16 articles a month, local press and digital PR, a plan to displace the names competitors hold, a monthly strategy call, one add-on included
Custom Quoted on a call Multi-location groups, franchises and national brands, scoped per engagement

Prices are per location, month to month. No package has a setup fee. Every package starts with two free weeks, with no card needed and one trial per business, and you pay nothing unless the count of AI answers naming you went up by day 14.

What do other local SEO services list?

Two local SEO software companies publish done-for-you prices. BrightLocal lists a managed SEO service “from $499” a month on its pricing page. Whitespark lists SEO services from $499 to $1,999 a month on its pricing page, checked November 1, 2026. Neither is an average, just two published price lists.

What does each Damex service cost on its own?

The five core services, AI Visibility, Local SEO, Google Business Profile, Content and Reviews, aren’t sold on their own anymore. They come inside the packages above. The add-ons work with any package, priced per location per month, from $149 to $497. One-off projects have fixed prices.

One-off projects are a Brand Kit at $490, a landing page at $990, a website of up to 8 pages at $2,490, brand identity from $2,500 and a launch video at $990.

Google Business Profile optimization cost shows why line items matter. The profile is free. What you pay for is the weekly work of posts, photos and catching unwanted edits, which at Damex comes with every package from Essentials up. See the Google Business Profile service and the Reviews program.

AI SEO agency pricing is newer. At Damex, AI visibility is the core of every package: Starter tracks 10 buyer questions across five AI engines, Essentials and Growth 25, and Authority 50. Nobody can promise ChatGPT will name you, so pay for measured work, with the counting method in writing. The difference between the disciplines is in SEO vs AEO vs GEO.

How do Google Ads charge?

Per click. Google says that with cost-per-click bidding you pay for each click on your ads. You set a maximum, the most you’re willing to pay for a click, and the amount you’re actually charged is called your actual CPC. Your daily budget then caps the month.

You set an average daily budget, and Google says you can edit it whenever you like. Spend can run above it on some days but will never exceed 2 times the daily budget on a given day. Across a month you’re never charged more than 30.4 times the average daily budget.

For example, a $20 average daily budget means a monthly charge of no more than $608. A busy day can reach $40, and the month still stops at $608, whoever manages the account.

How do Local Services Ads charge?

Per lead, not per click. Google says you only pay when potential customers get in touch through your ad, by calling, messaging or booking. You choose a budget and can change it whenever you need to. Since August 2026, select home service accounts are also moving into Performance Max.

How much each lead costs depends on location, job type and how you bid, Google says. Before migration you can let Google maximize leads, aim for a target cost per lead, or set your own maximum per lead. Before ads run, Google checks your business registration and identity, and verified businesses get the Google Verified badge.

What counts as a charged lead?

Google’s How leads work page answers this. A missed call during business hours can be charged when the customer stays on the line for more than 20 seconds. Follow-ups with the same customer aren’t charged again if there’s interaction within 15 days. Google says charged leads are reassessed by its models over time and may be credited automatically if they’re found to be low quality. Once you reach your monthly maximum, your ad won’t appear for the rest of the month unless you raise the budget.

That makes answering the phone a cost line. A lead you paid for and didn’t pick up costs you twice, once in the charge and again in the lost job. We cover the plumbing case in detail in are Local Services Ads worth it for plumbers.

What changes with Performance Max?

Google is moving Local Services Ads into Google Ads Performance Max campaigns. The first phase began in August 2026 for select US home and storefront service advertisers, in categories such as plumbing, HVAC and roofing. Google says you still only pay for valid leads, weekly budgets become daily averages, and monthly spend is capped at 30.4 times that daily average.

For example, a business spending $7,000 a month on ads pays Google $7,000. It pays Damex $497 plus 10% of the $2,000 above $5,000, which comes to $697.

How do Meta ads charge?

Meta charges against a daily or lifetime budget you set. With a daily budget, Meta says spending may be higher on some days and lower on others, up to 75% over the daily budget on a good day. It won’t spend more than 7 times your daily budget in a week running Sunday to Saturday.

Meta’s own example is a $100 daily budget. Some days it may spend up to $175, some days less, and the week stops at $700. With ad set budget sharing on, the limits rise to $210 a day and $840 a week. Pausing an ad stops new charges, though a bill for earlier ones can still arrive.

Meta also says it will consider refunds for spend above those daily or weekly limits. Where Google caps the month, Meta caps the week, so you can predict the most a two-week offer will spend before it starts.

How do the ad platforms compare on billing?

Google Search ads bill per click, Local Services Ads per valid lead, and Meta against a daily budget with weekly limits. All three let you change the budget whenever you like, and all three bill your own card. The table shows each platform’s limits.

Google Search ads Local Services Ads Meta ads
You pay for Each click Each valid lead Delivery against your budget
Most on one day 2 times the average daily budget Set by your budget and bids 175% of the daily budget
Most in a period 30.4 times the daily budget a month Monthly max, or 30.4 times the daily average after migration 7 times the daily budget a week
Credits Not covered in this guide Low-quality leads may be credited automatically Refunds considered above the limits

What do local SEO tools cost?

Some of the most useful tools are free, and the paid ones are modest next to agency fees. We list only prices we read on the seller’s own pricing page, with the date we checked. Prices change, so check again before you buy.

  • Google Business Profile is free. Google says creating a profile and listing your business on Google is free.
  • BrightLocal lists these prices for one location, checked October 31, 2026. Track is $41 a month billed monthly or $369 a year, Manage is $54 a month or $485 a year, and Grow is $65 a month or $584 a year. It offers a 14-day free trial with no card. Its Citation Builder charges per listing, from $3.20 per site, or as low as $2 with bulk credits.
  • Whitespark, checked November 1, 2026, lists Local Rank Tracker plans from $14 to $200 a month, Local Citation Finder plans from $33 to $149 a month, and Reputation Builder at $79 a month per location. Its listings service packages run from $20 to $999 as a one-time fee.
  • CallRail, a call tracking tool, checked November 1, 2026, lists Lead Tracking at $50 a month plus usage, with 5 numbers and 250 minutes, and a 14-day free trial.
  • Damex includes the tools it uses in every package price, and call tracking comes with the Paid ads add-on.

If you hire an agency, ask whether tools like these are inside the fee or billed on top.

How do you build a monthly marketing budget, line by line?

Start with what’s free, decide what you’ll do yourself, then price the rest. Cap ad spend at what you could live with in a slow month, add software only if it isn’t included, and judge the whole thing by cost per booked job. Have your last three months of statements to hand.

  1. List the free lines. Claim your free Google Business Profile, and run a free AI visibility check so you know where you start.
  2. Pick what you’ll do yourself. Weekly profile photos, review requests and replies, and holiday hours take minutes from a phone. Keep them if you’ll really do them.
  3. Price the agency work from a written scope. Get each quote as a list of monthly tasks, per location, with any setup fee shown.
  4. Set the ad budget as a ceiling. Choose a daily budget, then work out the worst month. On Google that’s 30.4 times the daily budget, and on Meta it’s 7 times the daily budget each week.
  5. Add the answering line. Paid leads only pay off if someone answers. Check your call log for unanswered calls, then price a reception or text-back service.
  6. Add software only if it’s missing. Many agencies include rank tracking, listings tools and call tracking, so don’t pay twice.
  7. Measure cost per booked job every month. Divide what each channel cost by the jobs it booked. Fix the worst line before you raise any budget.

The step most owners skip is the fourth. Do the worst-month sum before you press go.

Six-step flow for building a monthly marketing budget, from free lines to cost per booked job.
Six steps for building a local marketing budget line by line, ending with cost per booked job.

What’s worth doing yourself?

Jobs that only take a phone and a few minutes are worth keeping in-house. Jobs that are slow, technical or expensive to get wrong are worth paying for. If you’ll really do it every week, keep it. If it slips every busy season, pay for it.

Worth keeping:

  • Posting a job photo to your Google profile each week.
  • Asking every customer for a review, and replying to every review. Our review request templates follow Google’s rules.
  • Asking ChatGPT and Google the questions your customers ask, once a month, and noting who gets named. Our AI visibility self-audit shows how.

Worth paying for:

  • Cleaning up listings across dozens of directories.
  • Writing pages that answer customer questions, with structured data.
  • Managing ad budgets, where a bad week costs real money.
  • Answering calls you’d otherwise miss. The missed-call calculator shows what they’re worth.

How does this work for each trade?

The line items are the same in every trade, but their weight isn’t. A roofer’s costs swing with the weather, a plumber’s with emergencies, a dentist’s with patient privacy. Here’s which lines matter most in five of the trades we serve. We don’t quote trade prices, because no platform publishes them.

Home services: which lines weigh most?

For HVAC companies

HVAC budgets live and die by the season. In the first hot week, Google can spend up to twice your average daily budget on a single day, while the month still stops at 30.4 times it. If you search for HVAC marketing agencies near me, cost is often the last thing their pages show, so ask each one how it handles a heat wave and who approves a bigger budget. Profile categories and seasonal posts are a cheap line worth doing well; see the Google Business Profile playbook for HVAC companies. Email and SMS to opted-in maintenance customers matters more here than in most trades, because tune-ups come around every year.

For plumbing companies

For plumbers, the answering line matters most. Emergencies come at night and on weekends, and a Local Services lead you miss can still be charged if the caller stays on the line for more than 20 seconds in business hours. Owners searching plumbing marketing near me usually ask about cost first, so ask the agency what happens to a paid lead nobody picks up. Read how to show up for emergency plumber near me searches before you raise the budget. Our $197 AI receptionist answers calls and texts back any it misses, but check your own call log before you buy anything.

More for plumbing companies: Plumbing marketing and AI visibility

For roofing companies

Roofing costs swing with storms. After hail, demand jumps for a few weeks, and a budget set in a quiet month can run out fast or leave calls on the table. Roofing is in Google’s first Performance Max migration phase, so check how your Local Services budget is now set. Shared-lead marketplaces are a separate line with their own billing, compared in buying leads vs owning your calls. Project pages naming real neighborhoods and roof types pay off in storm season, which is why how roofers get found after a storm says to write them first. Budget that work for spring.

Health practices: which lines weigh most?

For dental practices

Dental SEO cost comes down to a few lines that carry more risk than in home services. Review replies are one. A health practice has patient-privacy duties a contractor doesn’t, so a reply that says too much about a visit is a real risk. Rules vary by state, so check with your attorney. Healthgrades and similar directories are a listings line that matters more for a practice; see our Healthgrades source page. New-patient calls during busy front-desk hours are the other line, and is an AI front desk safe for a dental practice covers what to check before you automate them. Ask any agency for its patient-privacy process in writing.

More for dental practices: Dental marketing and AI visibility

For med spas

Med spa marketing cost leans toward ads and content. Short videos and posts made from your own work carry extra weight. Meta ad spend is common, and Meta’s weekly limit of 7 times the daily budget makes a promotion easy to cap. The risk line is compliance. Claims about results, before-and-after photos and pricing offers all have rules, set out in med spa advertising rules in the US. Rules vary by state; check with your attorney. Email and SMS to opted-in clients matters too, because many treatments repeat on a schedule. Ask how an agency checks ad claims before they run.

What does a full month look like? A worked example

Here’s one month for a one-location plumber, using Damex’s published Growth and add-on prices and Google’s billing rules. The lead numbers are estimates, because Google says lead prices vary by location and job type. Put your own numbers in the same sums.

Say the plumber takes the Growth package at $1,500 a month, adds the Paid ads add-on at $497 and the AI receptionist add-on at $197, and runs Local Services Ads with a $40 average daily budget after the move to Performance Max.

  • Agency fee. $1,500 plus $497 plus $197, which is $2,194.
  • Ad spend ceiling. $40 times 30.4 is $1,216, the most Google can charge in the month.
  • Software. $0 extra, because call tracking comes with the Paid ads add-on.
  • Most the month can cost. $2,194 plus $1,216, which is $3,410.

Now the results. Say Google charges the full $1,216 for 24 leads. The AI receptionist answers calls while the crew is on a job and texts back any it misses, and the plumber books 9 jobs.

  • Cost per lead. $1,216 divided by 24 is about $51.
  • Cost per booked job. $3,410 divided by 9 is about $379.
  • If 3 more leads become jobs. $3,410 divided by 12 is about $284.

The ad budget is the owner’s choice, not a recommendation. The lesson is the last line. Booking three more of the leads you already paid for cuts cost per booked job by about a quarter, without spending a dollar more.

The first two weeks cost nothing (one trial per business). Damex counts the AI answers that name the business on day 0 and day 14, and the package bills from day 15 only if that count went up.

What are the most common local SEO pricing mistakes?

Most expensive mistakes come from comparing the wrong numbers. Owners compare headline fees when one quote hides ad spend, judge cost per lead when cost per booked job pays the bills, or sign a long contract before seeing a single report. Each is easy to avoid once you know it.

  1. Comparing a quote with ad spend inside to one without. Split every quote into agency fee and ad spend first.
  2. Judging ads by cost per click or lead. A cheap lead that never books costs more than an expensive one that does.
  3. Paying for leads you don’t answer. Local Services can charge a missed call in business hours. Fix answering first, as missed calls are the cheapest leads you are losing explains.
  4. Paying for a free profile. Google Business Profile costs nothing to create. Pay for ongoing work, not setup.
  5. Buying tools your agency already pays for. Ask what’s included before you subscribe.
  6. Accepting a ranking or AI placement guarantee. No one controls Google’s results or AI answers, so a placement guarantee is a reason to walk away. A promise about measured movement, with the counting method in writing, is a different thing.
  7. Buying reviews or asking only happy customers. Google’s content policy bars businesses from selectively asking for positive reviews or offering incentives, so ask every customer. Our guide to getting more Google reviews covers the rules.

How do you judge an agency quote?

Ask for the work in writing, split the agency fee from ad spend, and check what happens when you want to leave. A good quote answers every question below without a sales call. If you can’t get straight answers in writing, that tells you more than the price.

“Local SEO” can mean almost anything. For example, one quote covers a monthly report and nothing else, while another bundles ad spend, a website and a setup fee into one number. Ask both the same questions.

Questions to ask before you sign a local SEO quote

  • What exactly do you do each month, in writing?
  • How many locations does this price cover?
  • Is ad spend inside your fee, and do you mark it up?
  • Is ad spend billed to my own Google and Meta accounts?
  • Is there a setup fee or a minimum contract?
  • Are software and tools included, or billed on top?
  • Will the report show calls and booked jobs, not just rankings?
  • Do I keep my profile, listings, website content and ad accounts if I leave?
  • How do you handle review replies and customer privacy?

Run our own prices through the same list on the pricing page.

How does Damex price and run the work?

Experienced marketers do the work. A senior marketer with 10+ years of experience owns every account, and mid-level specialists do the hands-on work. Packages and add-ons are priced per location per month, with no setup fee. Ad spend stays on your own account.

We work with US local service businesses in fifteen trades, across home services, health practices and auto repair. Here’s how this guide’s cost lines map to the packages and add-ons.

  • Listings and pages. Every package fixes your listings across the directories AI engines and maps read for your trade and publishes answer-first articles. Starter makes the listing fix once and publishes 2 articles a month. From Essentials up, we keep your listings current every month and publish 4, 8 or 16 articles a month, depending on the package.
  • Profile and reviews. From Essentials up, we post to your Google profile weekly. On Growth and Authority, we ask for a review after each job with the customer’s consent and reply to every review.
  • Ads. On the Paid ads add-on, a specialist builds and tunes Google Search, Local Services and Meta ads inside the budget cap you set and watches for unusual daily spend.
  • Calls. The $197 Missed calls and AI receptionist add-on answers calls, handles common questions and books jobs, and texts back any call it still misses.
  • Reporting. On the Paid ads add-on you see spend, calls and cost per call side by side, and every package reports the AI answers that name you each month.

Start with the free two weeks (one per business), change package any time with the difference prorated, and cancel any time. Everything is on the pricing page, and our services list shows which package includes each service. More guides on this topic are in the Local SEO hub.

Questions people ask

How much does local SEO cost per month for a small business?

For a small business in the USA, it depends on scope and locations, so compare written lists of work rather than headline prices. Damex includes local SEO in every package, from $350 to $3,000 a month per location. BrightLocal lists a managed SEO service from $499 a month, and Whitespark lists SEO plans from $499 to $1,999 a month.

Does Google Business Profile cost money?

No. Google says creating a Business Profile and listing your business on Google is free. Setup costs nothing unless you pay someone to manage it. Damex includes Google Business Profile care in every package from Essentials, $750 a month per location, up.

What does local SEO include?

At Damex, every package includes local SEO: a listing fix across the directories AI engines and maps read for your trade, made once on Starter and kept current every month from Essentials up. Other agencies define it differently, so ask for the monthly work in writing before you compare prices.

How much should an HVAC company spend on marketing each month?

There's no honest single number. Add up the agency fee, the ad budget you can afford in a slow month, and any software not already included. Then judge the total by cost per booked job. Google's monthly cap of 30.4 times your average daily budget tells you the most an ad campaign can charge.

How much should a dental practice pay a marketing agency each month?

Pay for a written scope you can measure, not a headline number. Damex packages run from $350 to $3,000 a month per location, and add-ons from $149. A practice should check that the agency handles review replies without sharing patient details. Rules vary by state, so check with your attorney.

How much does med spa marketing cost, and what should an agency include?

Budget for the agency fee, any Meta or Google ad spend, and content made from your own treatments. Ask the agency to show how it follows health advertising rules and review rules. Damex lists every package and add-on on its pricing page, with add-ons from $149 a month.

What do Google Local Services Ads cost?

You pay per valid lead, not per click. Google says lead prices vary by location and job type, and that you choose your budget. Missed calls in business hours can count as leads when the caller stays on the line more than 20 seconds.

What does an AI SEO service cost?

At Damex, AI visibility is the core of every package, from $350 a month per location. Starter tracks 10 buyer questions across 5 AI engines, Essentials and Growth 25, and Authority 50, and our team works on the sources those engines read. Nobody can guarantee placement in AI answers.

Does Damex mark up ad spend?

No. Google and Meta bill your ad spend to your own account. The Paid ads fee is $497 a month, which covers up to $5,000 of monthly spend, then 10% of spend above that.

Is there a setup fee or a long contract with Damex?

No package has a setup fee. Packages run month to month, you can change package any time, prorated, and cancelling stops future charges. Every package starts with two free weeks and no card (one trial per business): you pay nothing unless the count of AI answers naming you went up by day 14.

Why do local SEO prices vary so much between agencies?

Scope, number of locations, whether ad spend or setup is bundled in, and contract length all move the price. Compare written lists of what's included rather than headline prices.
