The short answer
Updated
Landscaping companies should choose Landscaper as their primary category on Google Business Profile, or Lawn care service if mowing and lawn care are most of the work. Add secondaries such as Landscape designer or Lawn sprinkler system contractor only for real services, avoid supply-store categories, set service areas by town, and post seasonal before-and-after photos of your own jobs.
Your categories.Primary first.
The primary category tells Google what you mainly are. Secondary ones add the other work you do.
Primary
Landscaper
It covers design, installs and maintenance. Mow-only companies should use Lawn care service instead.

Garden center
Use it when you run a retail nursery customers visit.
Skip it if you only buy plants for your own jobs.

Attributes.Small ticks, real answers.
- Owner identity
- Google offers attributes such as Veteran-owned, Women-owned and Black-owned. Add only those that are true; they help customers who look for them.
- Small business
- Google defines a small business as one making less than $10 million a year, and franchises can't use it.
8 photos first.Real jobs, real people.
- 01A finished lawn and border, in good light
- 02The crew at work with their equipment
- 03Before and after of a design project
- 04Your branded truck and trailer at a job, with no house number in view
- 05The team in uniform
- 06A patio or hardscape you built
- 07An irrigation install in progress
- 08Your yard or office exterior with signage, if customers can visit

What gets profiles suspended.Avoid these.
- Adding keywords, towns or taglines to your business name. Google says it can lead to suspension.Google's guideline
- Using a P.O. box or a virtual office you don't work from as your address.Google's guideline
- Showing your home address instead of hiding it and setting service areas.Google's guideline
- A service area that stretches beyond about two hours' drive from your base.Google's guideline
- Creating a new profile for the same business, including after a suspension. Appeal instead; Google allows one appeal.Google's guideline
Questions people ask.Short answers.
Landscaper or Lawn care service as primary?
Landscaper if you design and install; Lawn care service if mowing and lawn treatments are most of the work.
Should I add Garden center?
Only if you run a retail nursery. Supply and retail categories describe selling, not landscaping.
Can I list towns in my business name?
No. Google doesn't allow location words in the name unless they're part of your real-world name. Use service areas instead.
