Shared leads.In plain English.

Definition

Updated

A shared lead is a customer request that reaches several businesses at once, so each one competes to reply first.

HomeAdvisor tells homeowners they'll receive information for up to four pre-screened pros, and its Angi Leads page for pros says leads are sent to you and up to three other pros.

On Thumbtack the customer chooses which pros to contact, up to five in the first four hours of a search, and pros pay automatically when a matching customer contacts them, at a lead price the pro sets.

Speed to reply decides who wins the job. Thumbtack tells pros the faster they respond, the better their chances of being hired, and says how quickly pros respond affects the order they appear in.

Compare them on cost per booked job, not cost per lead.

Example: a house cleaner pays for a lead that three other cleaners also get. Replying within minutes with a clear price gives the best chance of the booking, so the lead's real cost depends on how many leads turn into jobs.
