LocalBusiness schema.In plain English.

Definition

Updated

LocalBusiness schema is structured data from Schema.org that describes a business's name, address, phone number and opening hours in a form search engines can read reliably.

Google requires only the name and address, and recommends details such as the phone number, website, opening hours and location. Give the phone number with its country and area code, and add one LocalBusiness item for each location.

Use the most specific type you can. Schema.org has types for trades, such as Plumber, HVACBusiness and RoofingContractor under HomeAndConstructionBusiness, and Dentist.

It sits in the page code as JSON-LD and doesn't change what visitors see. Google says the markup must match what the page shows, and we also keep it in line with the business's listings, so search engines meet one version of its details.

Organization markup can add sameAs links to your profiles on other sites, and Google lets you list several.

Example: a plumbing company with two branches adds one Plumber item for each branch, each with its own address, phone number and hours.
