# Review request templates: 9 texts and emails

> A good review request goes to every customer soon after the job, uses their name, mentions the work and links straight to your Google review form. Ask once and remind once at most. Never offer a reward or ask only the happy customers. Send people to Google, not Yelp, because Yelp asks businesses not to request reviews at all.

## The templates

### 1. The day of the job

```text
Hi [Name], thanks for choosing [Business] today. If you have a minute, would you leave us a Google review? [review link] Reply STOP to opt out.
```

### 2. From the person who did the work

```text
Hi [Name], it's [Tech] from [Business]. Thanks for having us out for the [job]. If you're willing, an honest Google review helps neighbours with the same problem find us: [review link] Reply STOP to opt out.
```

### 3. One reminder, a few days later

```text
Hi [Name], a quick reminder from [Business]. If you'd like to review your [job], here's the link: [review link]. No worries if not, we won't ask again. Reply STOP to opt out.
```

### 4. A thank-you email after the job

```text
Subject: Thanks from [Business], and one quick favour
Hi [Name],
Thanks for having us out for the [job] on [date]. If anything isn't right, reply to this email and I'll sort it.
If you have two minutes, an honest Google review helps other people in [town] decide who to call:
[review link]
Thanks,
[Owner name]
[Business], [phone]
```

### 5. A maintenance plan visit

```text
Hi [Name], your [service] visit from [Business] is done. Thanks for being on our maintenance plan. If you'd like to share how it's going, here's our Google review link: [review link] Reply STOP to opt out.
```

### 6. After a problem was put right

```text
Hi [Name], thanks for your patience with the [issue]. If anything still isn't right, reply and I'll call you myself. Either way, an honest review helps us: [review link] Reply STOP to opt out.
```

Send this whether or not you think they're happy now. Asking only satisfied customers is review gating.

### 7. After a big project, like a roof or a new system

```text
Subject: How did your new [project] turn out?
Hi [Name],
It was good working with you on the [project]. Your warranty details are attached, and you can reach us at [phone] for anything.
Would you share an honest Google review of the job? It helps people in [town] decide who to trust with their home:
[review link]
Thanks,
[Owner name], [Business]
```

### 8. A dental or medical practice

```text
Hi [Name], thanks for visiting [Practice]. If you'd like to share your experience, you can leave a Google review here: [review link]. Please leave out any health details you'd rather keep private. Reply STOP to opt out.
```

When you reply to a patient's review, never confirm they are a patient or mention treatment. HHS has fined practices for it.

### 9. Customers who prefer Spanish

```text
Hola [Name], gracias por elegir a [Business]. Si tiene un minuto, ¿nos deja una reseña en Google? [review link] Responda STOP para no recibir más mensajes.
```

## Mistakes to avoid

- Asking only customers you know are happy. That's review gating, and Google doesn't allow it.
- Offering a discount, gift card or prize draw entry for a review.
- Asking for Yelp reviews, which Yelp says can hurt your rating.
- Asking staff to collect a set number of reviews, or reviews that name them.
- Pressing customers to write a review while you're still on site.
- Replying to a patient's review in a way that confirms they are a patient.

## FAQs

### Can I offer a reward for a review?

Not on Google. Google prohibits incentives for any review. US federal rules ban rewards tied to a positive or negative review, so the simple answer is no reward at all.

### Can I ask only my happy customers?

No. Google doesn't allow selectively asking for positive reviews, and the FTC says inviting only satisfied customers may be deceptive. Ask everyone the same way.

### Where do I get my Google review link?

In your Business Profile, open Read reviews, then Get more reviews, and copy the link. Google says the QR code can only be made in a computer browser.

### What should a dental office do about a bad review?

Reply briefly and invite the person to call, without confirming they are a patient or mentioning treatment. HHS has fined practices for disclosing patient information in review replies.
