# Missed-call text templates: 11 replies to send

> A good missed-call text goes out within a minute, says who you are and makes one clear offer: a call back or a reply by text. Keep it to one message with no sales pitch, include a STOP line, and wait for the customer to reply before texting again. No FCC rule says a missed call counts as consent, so their reply is what keeps the conversation safe.

## The templates

### 1. You're on a job during the day

```text
Hi, it's [Business]. Sorry we missed your call, we're on a job. Reply here with what you need, or we'll call you back by [time]. Reply STOP to opt out.
```

### 2. You want the customer's OK before texting more

```text
Hi, this is [Business] returning your missed call. Is it OK to text you about your request? Reply YES and we'll pick it up here, or STOP and we won't text again.
```

This is the safest opener. A reply of YES is a clear record that the customer wants to continue by text.

### 3. After hours, with an emergency line

```text
Hi, it's [Business]. We missed your call and we're closed until [time]. For an emergency, call [on-call number]. Otherwise reply with what you need and we'll call first thing. Reply STOP to opt out.
```

### 4. You want details before calling back

```text
Hi, [Business] here. Sorry we missed you. What can we help with? A short reply like 'AC not cooling, upstairs' helps us send the right person. Reply STOP to opt out.
```

### 5. Phones are busy in peak season

```text
Hi, it's [Business]. Our phones are busy today, so we missed your call. Reply with your address and the problem and we'll text you our first open time. Reply STOP to opt out.
```

### 6. You're closed for the weekend

```text
Thanks for calling [Business]. We're closed for the weekend and back Monday at [time]. Reply with what you need and we'll call you then. Reply STOP to opt out.
```

### 7. The number belongs to a booked customer

```text
Hi, it's [Business]. We saw a missed call from this number. If it's about your [job] on [date], reply YES and we'll call you right back. Reply STOP to opt out.
```

### 8. Callers usually want an estimate

```text
Hi, [Business] here. Sorry we missed your call. If you need an estimate, reply with your address and a photo of the problem and we'll get back to you by [time]. Reply STOP to opt out.
```

### 9. A dental or medical front desk

```text
Hi, this is [Practice] returning your call. Our front desk will call you back today. To book or change a visit, reply with your name and a good time to call. Please don't text health details. Reply STOP to opt out.
```

Keeps health information out of a text thread, which isn't the place for it.

### 10. Many callers prefer Spanish

```text
Hi, it's [Business]. Sorry we missed your call, we'll call back within [time]. ¿Prefiere español? Responda ES. Reply STOP to opt out.
```

### 11. Someone replies STOP

```text
You're unsubscribed from [Business] texts and won't get any more. Call [phone] if you need us.
```

FCC rules treat one confirmation sent within five minutes as covered by the customer's earlier consent. Send it once, then nothing.

## Mistakes to avoid

- Sending a second text before the customer has replied to the first.
- Adding a coupon or promotion to the first reply. That makes it a marketing text, which needs signed written consent.
- Texting from a local number that isn't registered for A2P 10DLC. Carriers can block it.
- Leaving out the business name, so the customer doesn't know who is texting.
- Promising a call-back time the team can't keep.

## FAQs

### Is it legal to text someone who called my business?

We found no FCC statement that a missed call counts as consent to be texted. Texts count as calls under the TCPA, and autodialed texts need consent. Keep the first reply informational, include STOP, and continue only if the customer replies. This isn't legal advice.

### Which replies count as opting out?

FCC rules treat replies such as stop, quit, end, revoke, opt out, cancel or unsubscribe as revoking consent, and require you to honour them within 10 business days.

### Do I need to register my number?

If you text from a local 10-digit number through software, US carriers require A2P 10DLC registration through your provider. Twilio, for example, blocks unregistered traffic.

### What changes on November 25, 2026?

An FCC rule published on October 26, 2026 lets a business name STOP-style replies as its only opt-out method, as long as every text says so. The 10-business-day limit stays.
