# Wikipedia and Wikidata: does AI use it, and how to fix your listing

> Wikipedia only covers businesses with significant coverage in independent, reliable sources, and its guideline says very small local companies are typically not suitable. Editing about your own business is strongly discouraged and paid editing must be disclosed. The Wikimedia Foundation says its content is one of several sources behind Google's knowledge panels. For most local businesses, earning independent coverage matters more than an article.

## How to claim and fix it

1. **Check notability honestly.** Wikipedia presumes a company notable only with significant coverage in several independent, reliable sources.
2. **Don't write your own article.** Wikipedia strongly discourages editing about your own business.
3. **Suggest, don't edit.** If an article exists, propose corrections on its talk page and say who you are.
4. **Disclose any payment.** Anyone paid to edit must disclose their employer and client.

## Keep these fields identical to your Google profile

- Official business name
- Website
- Location
- Founding year

## How Damex handles it

We don't create or edit Wikipedia articles for clients. We work on the independent coverage that Wikipedia and AI engines both value: honest best-of lists on Growth and Authority, and local news and trade press on Authority.

## FAQs

### Can I write a Wikipedia article about my business?

Wikipedia strongly discourages it, and its guideline says very small local companies are typically not suitable for an article.

### Can I pay someone to write one?

Only with disclosure. Wikimedia's terms require paid editors to disclose their employer, client and affiliation.

### What about Wikidata?

Wikidata items need a link to a Wikimedia page, or an entity that can be described with serious, publicly available references.
