# Google Business Profile for HVAC companies: categories, services and posts

> Most HVAC companies should choose HVAC contractor as their primary category on Google Business Profile, then add specific secondary categories such as Air conditioning contractor and Furnace repair service. Hide your address if customers don't visit, set real service areas, list services in customers' own words, post weekly through the seasons and keep keywords out of your business name.

Published Oct 31, 2026, updated Oct 31, 2026. By Shakhawat Ullah Badhon, Founder, Damex Digital.

Category names checked against public copies of Google's list on Oct 31, 2026. Google doesn't publish the list openly, so confirm each one in your profile's category picker.

## Primary category

**HVAC contractor.** It covers heating and cooling together, which is how most homeowners think of the trade.

## Secondary categories

| Category | Use it when | Avoid it when |
|---|---|---|
| Air conditioning contractor | You install and service AC systems. | |
| Heating contractor | You install and service furnaces, boilers or heat pumps. | |
| Air conditioning repair service | AC repair is a large share of your calls. | |
| Furnace repair service | You do furnace repairs, not only installs. | |
| Air duct cleaning service | You offer duct cleaning as its own service. | you only clean ducts as part of an install. |
| Air conditioning system supplier | You sell equipment to customers directly. | you only install what you buy. Google says categories should say what the business is. |

## Services to add

- **Cooling:** AC repair, AC installation, AC maintenance, Mini split installation
- **Heating:** Furnace repair, Furnace installation, Heat pump installation, Boiler repair
- **Air quality:** Duct cleaning, Air filter replacement, Thermostat installation

## Attributes

- **Owner identity:** Google offers attributes such as Veteran-owned, Women-owned and Black-owned. Add only those that are true; they help customers who look for them.
- **Small business:** Google defines a small business as one making less than $10 million a year, and franchises can't use it.

## Photos to upload first

1. A technician working on an outdoor AC unit
2. A finished install, cleaned up, with the old unit gone
3. Your branded van at a job, with no house number in view
4. The team in uniform, in good light
5. A furnace or air handler you installed
6. A thermostat you fitted, close up
7. Ductwork in progress
8. Your shop or office exterior with signage, if customers can visit

## A year of posts (examples)

| Month | Topic | Example post |
|---|---|---|
| January | Cold snaps | Furnace short-cycling or blowing cold air? Here are three things to check before you call, and when to call straight away. |
| February | Filters | When did you last change your furnace filter? A quick guide to the right size and how often to swap it. |
| March | Spring tune-ups | AC tune-up season starts now. Here's what our techs check on every visit, so you know what you're paying for. |
| April | Heat pumps | Thinking about a heat pump? What it costs to run, what it replaces, and when it makes sense in our climate. |
| May | Before the heat | Turn your AC on now, not in the first heatwave. If it smells, rattles or won't cool, book a visit while slots are open. |
| June | Heatwave readiness | Our crew just replaced a 17-year-old system in [neighbourhood]. Here's what told us it was time. |
| July | AC emergencies | AC stopped on a hot night? Check the breaker and thermostat first. If that's not it, we run emergency calls. |
| August | Indoor air quality | Dusty house, stuffy rooms? How duct cleaning and better filters help, and when they don't. |
| September | Fall furnace checks | Book your furnace check before the first cold night. Here's our checklist for every visit. |
| October | Thermostats | A new smart thermostat installed by our team in [town]. What it does and how to set a schedule. |
| November | Holiday guests | Hosting this month? Make sure the heat keeps up with a full house. Three quick checks. |
| December | Carbon monoxide | A reminder from our techs: test your CO detectors when you change the clocks, and keep vents clear of snow. |

## What gets profiles suspended

- Adding keywords, towns or taglines to your business name. Google says it can lead to suspension. ([Google's guideline](https://support.google.com/business/answer/3038177))
- Using a P.O. box or a virtual office you don't work from as your address. ([Google's guideline](https://support.google.com/business/answer/13762416))
- Showing your home address instead of hiding it and setting service areas. ([Google's guideline](https://support.google.com/business/answer/3038177))
- A service area that stretches beyond about two hours' drive from your base. ([Google's guideline](https://support.google.com/business/answer/3038177))
- Creating a new profile for the same business, including after a suspension. Appeal instead; Google allows one appeal. ([Google's guideline](https://support.google.com/business/answer/4569145))

## FAQs

### What's the best primary category for an HVAC company?

HVAC contractor suits most companies that do both heating and cooling. If you only do one, Air conditioning contractor or Heating contractor may fit better.

### Can I add 'AC repair' to my business name?

No. Google doesn't allow service or location words in the name unless they're part of your real-world name, and it can lead to suspension.

### Do HVAC companies need Advanced Verification?

Not for Business Profile. Advanced Verification is a Google Ads policy, and in the US it lists garage door and locksmith services, not HVAC.
