# Google Business Profile for house cleaning companies: categories, services and posts

> House cleaning companies should choose House cleaning service as their primary category on Google Business Profile. Add secondaries like Carpet cleaning service or Window cleaning service only for work you really do, and avoid laundry categories such as Dry cleaner. Google uses cleaning services as an example of a service-area business, so hide your address and set the areas you serve.

Published Nov 1, 2026, updated Nov 1, 2026. By Shakhawat Ullah Badhon, Founder, Damex Digital.

Category names checked against public copies of Google's list on Nov 1, 2026. Google doesn't publish the list openly, so confirm each one in your profile's category picker.

## Primary category

**House cleaning service.** It matches how customers search for home cleaning and is in both public copies of Google's list.

## Secondary categories

| Category | Use it when | Avoid it when |
|---|---|---|
| Carpet cleaning service | You clean carpets as a separate service. | |
| Window cleaning service | You clean windows inside and out. | |
| Upholstery cleaning service | You clean sofas and fabric furniture. | |
| Janitorial service | You clean offices or commercial buildings. | you only clean homes. |
| Dry cleaner | Never for home cleaning. | you don't run a laundry. It's a laundry category, not house cleaning. |

## Services to add

- **Home cleaning:** Regular house cleaning, Deep cleaning, Move-out cleaning, Move-in cleaning
- **Extras:** Inside oven cleaning, Inside fridge cleaning, Window cleaning
- **Other properties:** Vacation rental turnover, Office cleaning

## Attributes

- **Owner identity:** Google offers attributes such as Veteran-owned, Women-owned and Black-owned. Add only those that are true; they help customers who look for them.
- **Small business:** Google defines a small business as one making less than $10 million a year, and franchises can't use it.

## Photos to upload first

1. A spotless kitchen after a deep clean
2. The team in uniform with their supplies
3. Before and after of a move-out clean
4. Your branded car or van, with no house number in view
5. A cleaner at work, with the client's permission
6. Your supplies and checklist laid out
7. A bathroom after a clean
8. Your office exterior with signage, if customers can visit

## What gets profiles suspended

- Adding keywords, towns or taglines to your business name. Google says it can lead to suspension. ([Google's guideline](https://support.google.com/business/answer/3038177))
- Using a P.O. box or a virtual office you don't work from as your address. ([Google's guideline](https://support.google.com/business/answer/13762416))
- Showing your home address instead of hiding it and setting service areas. ([Google's guideline](https://support.google.com/business/answer/3038177))
- A service area that stretches beyond about two hours' drive from your base. ([Google's guideline](https://support.google.com/business/answer/3038177))
- Creating a new profile for the same business, including after a suspension. Appeal instead; Google allows one appeal. ([Google's guideline](https://support.google.com/business/answer/4569145))

## FAQs

### Is there a Maid service category?

Not in the public copies of Google's list we checked. House cleaning service is the category to use.

### Should I show my address?

Not if clients don't visit. Google gives cleaning services as an example of a service-area business, which can hide its address.

### Can I use Janitorial service?

Only if you clean commercial buildings. For homes, House cleaning service is the right primary category.
