# Duplicate listing

> A duplicate listing is a second profile for the same business on the same platform, often left over from an old address, phone number or owner.

Updated Nov 5, 2026.

Google allows one Business Profile per business. When Google treats a profile as a duplicate, it stops showing that profile on Search and Maps, and until then customers can find two versions of you with different details.

Duplicates usually come from a move, a new phone number, a change of owner, or separate profiles made for different services. Google's answer is the same each time: keep one profile, update its details, and add extra services as services rather than new profiles.

Anyone signed in to Google Maps can flag a stray listing: Suggest an edit, then Place closed or not here, then Duplicate of another place. Google reviews every request, so it can take a while.

When Google merges two profiles it combines their reviews, but replies to those reviews may be lost. If you created the extra profile yourself, you can remove it from your account. That deletes everything on it, so check it's the right one first.

AI assistants read these listings too. Two profiles with different phone numbers or addresses give them two answers to choose from, so clear duplicates before you correct details anywhere else.

Example: Example: a plumber moves across town and creates a new profile instead of editing the old one. Maps now shows two listings, and the old one still has the old address and phone number.
