Updated Nov 6, 2026. Start with the sources that feed others: Google, Bing, Apple and the main data aggregators. Then add the directories customers in your trade actually use. Claiming is free on the big platforms. Google lets you add or claim a Business Profile at no charge. Bing Places can import a verified Google profile and verify it automatically. Apple Business lets you add a location, or request a transfer if another organization already manages it. Bing warns that syncing may create duplicate listings, especially if one already exists on Bing, so check after an import. The search engines explain why this matters in their own words. Bing says the more a business is mentioned across the web, the greater its popularity and the more likely it is to appear in search results. Google says prominence is partly based on how many websites link to a business. Accurate listings on the sites that matter beat a long list of thin ones. A wrong phone number on one site can spread to many. Example: Example: a pest control company verifies its Google profile, imports it into Bing Places, claims its Apple Maps location and fixes the pin, then checks Bing for a duplicate left over from an old address. ## Sources 1.
