# Missed call text back: win back the cheapest leads you lose

> A missed call text back is a short, informational text sent automatically to someone whose call you couldn't answer, ideally within a minute or two. It names your business, asks one simple question and includes a way to reply STOP. The caller already found you and dialed, so a fast reply keeps the job from going to the next name on their list.

## The short version

- A missed caller already found you and dialed. Replying costs far less than paying to find a new lead.
- Measure your missed-call rate for two weeks from your phone system or call tracking before you change anything.
- Send one informational text within a minute or two: your business name, one question, a STOP line. No links, no offers.
- Promotional texts need written consent, and texting software on a local number needs A2P 10DLC registration.
- Track missed calls, replies and booked jobs each month so you can see what the text-back is worth.

## Key facts

| | |
|---|---|
| First text | Within a minute or two, one message, business name, one question, a STOP line |
| Consent | Informational replies only; promotional texts need prior express written consent |
| Registration | A2P 10DLC for texts sent through software from a local 10-digit number |

Most local businesses spend their marketing money on getting the phone to ring. Then it rings while the whole crew is on a roof, or the front desk is with a patient, and nobody answers.

That caller already did the hard part. They found you, picked you and dialed. Losing them stings more than losing a cold lead, because you've often already paid to make the phone ring. A missed call text back gives you a second chance: a short text, sent within a minute or two, that tells the caller they were heard and keeps the conversation going before they call someone else.

This playbook is for owners of US local service businesses in home services, health practices and auto repair.

**Key takeaways**

- A missed call text back is one short, informational text sent to someone whose call you couldn't answer, ideally within a minute or two.
- Measure first: count calls, missed calls and booked jobs for two weeks from your phone system or call tracking.
- The first text names your business, says you missed the call, asks one question and includes a way to reply STOP. No links, no offers.
- The FCC says commercial texts need written consent. A missed call isn't permission to market, so keep the first reply about the caller's own enquiry.
- Texting software on a local 10-digit number needs A2P 10DLC registration, or carriers can block the messages.
- The text only starts the conversation. Someone, or an AI receptionist, has to answer the replies and call back when promised.

## What is a missed call text back?

A missed-call text-back is an automatic text sent to a caller when nobody answers, usually within seconds of the call ending. It tells them which business they reached, says you'll help and invites a reply. Its job is to hold the lead until a person can call back, not to sell.

### The terms you'll see

- **[Missed-call text-back](https://damex.digital/glossary/missed-call-text-back/)** is the automatic reply itself. Software may call it a text-back system, automation or workflow.
- **Missed-call rate** is the share of inbound calls nobody answered. Thirty missed out of 200 is 15%.
- **Speed to lead** is the time from first contact to your first real reply. An automatic text a minute after the call counts. An unreturned voicemail doesn't.
- **[A2P 10DLC](https://damex.digital/glossary/a2p-10dlc/)** is the US carrier registration for businesses that text through software from a standard 10-digit local number.
- **Informational and promotional texts** are the two categories that matter for consent. A reply about the caller's own enquiry is informational. An offer or coupon is promotional.

## Why does a missed call text back matter now?

Almost every caller can read a text, most people ignore calls from numbers they don't know, and text scams have made customers wary. A fast, clearly branded text reaches the caller where they'll actually look, and Google's own ad system counts missed calls against you.

> **98%.** Pew Research Center's 2026 survey of 5,511 US adults found 98% own a cellphone of some kind and 91% own a smartphone. Source: [Pew Research Center: Mobile fact sheet](https://www.pewresearch.org/internet/fact-sheet/mobile/).

So a text-back reaches nearly every caller. A call-back is less certain: [Hiya's State of the Call 2026](https://www.hiya.com/state-of-the-call) report says most unknown calls now go unanswered.

> **86%.** Hiya's State of the Call 2026 report, based on more than 12,000 consumers in six countries, says 86% of unknown calls go unanswered. Source: [Hiya: State of the Call 2026](https://www.hiya.com/state-of-the-call).

Customers are cautious about texts too. The [FTC reported](https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2025/04/new-ftc-data-show-top-text-message-scams-2024-overall-losses-text-scams-hit-470-million) that losses to text scams grew fivefold between 2020 and 2024, and it tells consumers never to click links in unexpected texts. A good text-back has to look nothing like a scam.

> **$470M.** US consumers reported losing $470 million in 2024 to scams that started with a text message, five times the amount reported in 2020, according to the FTC. If you run Local Services Ads, missed calls cost you twice. Google's [ad ranking help page](https://support.google.com/localservices/answer/7527305?hl=en) lists responsiveness as a ranking factor and says: "Missed calls may negatively affect your responsiveness." ## Why do service businesses miss so many calls?

In a service business, missed calls come from the work itself. Crews are on jobs, front desks are with patients, and demand arrives in bursts after storms, heatwaves and cold snaps. Because most businesses miss calls at predictable times, a text-back plus a call-back routine catches most of them.

### By trade

The Bureau of Labor Statistics describes the schedules behind the missed calls. Most plumbers work full time, "including nights and weekends", and are often on call for emergencies ([BLS: Plumbers](https://www.bls.gov/ooh/construction-and-extraction/plumbers-pipefitters-and-steamfitters.htm)). HVAC technicians may work overtime or irregular schedules "during peak heating and cooling seasons" ([BLS: HVAC technicians](https://www.bls.gov/ooh/installation-maintenance-and-repair/heating-air-conditioning-and-refrigeration-mechanics-and-installers.htm)). Roofers may work overtime in the busy summer months ([BLS: Roofers](https://www.bls.gov/ooh/construction-and-extraction/roofers.htm)).

Health practices miss calls differently. The phone rings while the front desk checks a patient in or takes a payment, and a med spa's injector is in a treatment room with the door shut.

### By time of day

Your own call log is the only reliable source, but check these first:

- **The first hour,** when crews load trucks and the office catches up.
- **Lunch,** when the front desk steps away and customers call on their break.
- **After 5pm,** when customers get home and find the leak or the warm house.
- **Weekends and holidays,** when nobody is scheduled to answer.
- **Weather spikes,** when calls arrive faster than one person can take them.

You can't hire your way out of every one. You can make sure every missed caller hears back fast.

## How do you measure your missed-call rate?

Count every inbound call, every unanswered call and every booked job for two normal weeks, from your phone system's call log or your call tracking report. Your missed-call rate is missed calls divided by total calls. That baseline shows how big the problem is and whether the fix works.

### Where to find the numbers

- **Your phone system or VoIP provider.** Business phone systems usually log answered, missed and voicemail calls with a time stamp. Export two weeks.
- **Call tracking.** A tracking number on your website, ads or Google Business Profile records each call. Google's [call reporting help](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/2454052?hl=en) says it tracks details such as duration, start time and "whether the call was connected" for calls from your ads.
- **Local Services Ads lead reports,** because missed calls there affect cost and ranking. Our guide to [Local Services Ads for plumbers](https://damex.digital/blog/local-services-ads-plumbers/) shows how to read them.
- **Your job software,** for booked jobs by source.

### What to count

Count a typical fortnight, not your quietest. Split missed calls by hour and day, so you can see whether the gap is lunch, evenings or Saturdays. Remove spam and repeat calls from the same number, and note how many missed callers called back on their own. Then write down three numbers: missed calls a month, the share who never call back, and your average job value. They feed the maths later in this guide.

## How do you set up a missed-call text-back, step by step?

Set it up in seven steps: measure a baseline, choose the tool, register for A2P 10DLC, write the first text, set timing and duplicate rules, decide who answers replies, then review monthly. Most businesses can be live within a week or two, and carrier registration is usually the slowest part.

1. **Measure a baseline.** Run the two-week count above, so you know your missed-call rate before anything changes.
2. **Choose the tool.** Use your phone system's built-in feature, a CRM workflow or a done-for-you service. The best missed call text back software sends from the number customers called and lets your team see and answer replies.
3. **Register for A2P 10DLC.** If texts go out through software from a local number, your provider registers your brand and use case with the carriers. Do it before launch.
4. **Write the first text.** Business name, "we missed your call", one question, a STOP line. Two or three short sentences.
5. **Set timing and duplicate rules.** Send within a minute or two. Send once per caller per enquiry, even if they call three times in ten minutes.
6. **Decide who answers replies.** Name a person for business hours and a plan for after hours: an on-call phone, an answering service or an AI receptionist.
7. **Review it monthly.** Track missed calls, texts sent, replies, booked jobs and STOP replies. Low replies mean a weak question. Low bookings point at the call-back.

## What should a missed call text back say?

A good first text says who you are, that you missed their call, and asks one easy question, such as what they need or when suits them for a call back. Add a way to reply STOP. One short message is enough. Links, offers and long explanations make it look like spam.

**Example first text:**

```text
Hi, this is Ortega & Sons Plumbing. Sorry we missed your call. What do you need help with? Reply here and we'll call you back within 15 minutes. Reply STOP to opt out.
```

### What to leave out

- **Links.** The FTC tells consumers never to click links in unexpected texts, and the [FCC consumer guide](https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/stop-unwanted-robocalls-and-texts) says the same for numbers people don't recognise.
- **Offers and coupons.** CTIA's guidelines say adding a call to action such as a coupon code to an informational text may make it promotional, which needs written consent.
- **Promises you can't keep.** "We'll call in 5 minutes" is worse than "by 3pm" if the crew is on a roof until 2:45.
- **Health or personal details.** For a dental practice or med spa, keep treatment details out of the thread.

### When you're on a job

The most common case: the caller reached you mid-job. Say so. Customers forgive a missed call from a business that's clearly working.

**On a job:**

```text
Hi, it's Ridgeline Roofing. We're up on a roof and missed your call. Is this about a leak, an inspection or a quote? Reply and we'll call you by 4pm today. Reply STOP to opt out.
```

Swap in your own business name. Our [missed-call text templates](https://damex.digital/templates/missed-call-text/) page has more replies for after hours, weekends and busy days.

## Is it legal to text back a missed call?

The safest text-back is informational: it answers the caller's own enquiry, names the business and offers a way to opt out. The FCC says informational texts need consent that may be oral, while commercial texts need written consent. A missed call doesn't give you permission to market.

### What the FCC says

The [FCC's consumer guide](https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/stop-unwanted-robocalls-and-texts) says its rules "ban text messages sent to a mobile phone using an autodialer" unless the person consented or it's an emergency. It adds: "Commercial texts require written consent; for informational texts, your consent may be oral." The guide doesn't say a missed call counts as consent, so treat the first reply conservatively and continue only if the customer replies.

The rules in [47 CFR 64.1200](https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-47/section-64.1200) define prior express written consent as a signed written agreement authorising marketing messages to a specific number. They treat replies such as stop, quit, end, revoke, opt out, cancel or unsubscribe as revoking consent.

> **10 business days.** The FCC's TCPA rules require opt-out requests made in any reasonable manner to be acted on within a reasonable time, not more than ten business days after they're received. Source: [eCFR: 47 CFR 64.1200](https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-47/section-64.1200).

### What changes on November 25, 2026

An FCC rule [published in the Federal Register](https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/full_text/text/2026/10/26/2026-21821.txt) takes effect on November 25, 2026. It lets a sender name specific reply words as the only way to opt out by text, if each text says so. Naming one word, such as "stop", is enough, but senders must still act on any of the standard opt-out words.

### What CTIA expects

CTIA's [Messaging Principles and Best Practices](https://api.ctia.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/230523-CTIA-Messaging-Principles-and-Best-Practices-FINAL.pdf) sort business texts into conversational, informational and promotional. When a consumer texts first and the business simply responds, "no additional permission is expected." A missed call is a phone call, not a text, so don't assume that covers you. Before promotional texts, CTIA says the consumer "should agree in writing", and it asks senders to use standard STOP wording.

> **Watch out:** Text only people who just called you, and only about their enquiry. Include a way to reply STOP and act on it. Promotional texts need prior express written consent first. This isn't legal advice: rules vary by state; check with your attorney.

## Do you need A2P 10DLC registration?

Yes, if your text-back goes out through software from a standard local phone number. US carriers require businesses to register their brand and texting campaign under A2P 10DLC. Unregistered messages can be filtered or blocked, so your text-back may silently never arrive.

T-Mobile says 10DLC senders "must be registered before their campaign messages will be approved for delivery" on its network, and that messages on unsanctioned "gray routes" risk being delayed or not delivered ([T-Mobile](https://www.t-mobile.com/support/plans-features/consumer-versus-non-consumer-text-messaging)). Twilio blocks messages to US numbers from a 10DLC number that isn't tied to an approved campaign ([Twilio](https://www.twilio.com/docs/api/errors/30034)).

Your texting provider runs the registration. You supply your business details, sample messages and how people opt in, so publish SMS terms and opt-out wording on your site first. Our glossary entry on [A2P 10DLC](https://damex.digital/glossary/a2p-10dlc/) explains the moving parts.

## Which missed call text back software or service should you use?

Pick the option that sends from the number customers called, registers for A2P 10DLC, stops duplicate texts and puts replies in front of a person fast. Phone systems and CRMs are cheapest if you'll run them yourself. A done-for-you service costs more but includes the answering and the reporting.

| Option | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Built-in phone system feature | One location with someone who checks texts | Basic wording, limited reporting |
| CRM workflow, such as GoHighLevel (GHL) | Owners who like building automations | You set up wait steps, registration and reply routing |
| Field service or practice software | Texts tied to the job or patient record | Check it texts from your main number and supports 10DLC |
| Done-for-you service with an AI receptionist | Busy crews and front desks | Monthly cost; confirm who answers replies |

### GoHighLevel missed call text back

HighLevel (often called GHL or Go High Level) has a built-in [missed-call text-back feature](https://help.gohighlevel.com/support/solutions/articles/48001239140-where-and-how-to-configure-the-missed-call-text-back-feature). Its help article says it sends a text "for every missed call", even when the same caller tries several times, and recommends a workflow wait step to avoid repeats. Local numbers must be A2P 10DLC registered to send.

### Is free missed-call text-back software worth it?

Free options exist inside some phone plans and CRMs, but texting usually carries usage fees, and someone still has to answer every reply. Compare the full monthly cost against the jobs you win back; our [local marketing costs guide](https://damex.digital/blog/local-marketing-costs/) prices each line.

![Table comparing built-in phone features, CRM workflows, field service software and done-for-you services for missed call text back.](https://damex.digital/blog-img/missed-calls-cheapest-leads/compare-software-options.webp)

## How does this work for each trade?

A missed-call text-back works in every trade, but the first question, the timing and the risks change. Emergency trades need an after-hours route, roofers need storm-week capacity, and health practices must keep the thread free of health details. Write the text for the call you miss most.

### Home services

### For HVAC companies

HVAC calls are seasonal and urgent. On the first hot weekend, many missed calls are "no cooling", and those callers try several companies within minutes. Make the first question sort urgency, no cooling or no heat versus a tune-up, so the call-back goes to the right tech. Our [HVAC guide to ChatGPT](https://damex.digital/blog/hvac-companies-chatgpt/) covers wording for same-day service, and there are more [HVAC missed-call texts](https://damex.digital/templates/missed-call-text/hvac/) to copy.

**HVAC text:**

```text
Hi, it's Summit Air. Sorry we missed your call. Is your system not cooling at all, or is this about a tune-up or a quote? Reply and we'll call you back by [time]. Reply STOP to opt out.
```

More for HVAC companies: [HVAC marketing and AI visibility](https://damex.digital/industries/hvac/)

### For plumbing companies

A plumbing caller with water on the floor won't wait until tomorrow. The text should say whether you can come today and what to do meanwhile, such as finding the shutoff valve. Keep advice short and safe, and leave diagnosis for the call. For after-hours calls, see the 2am question in our [emergency plumber guide](https://damex.digital/blog/emergency-plumber-near-me/).

**Plumbing text:**

```text
Hi, it's Ortega & Sons Plumbing. We missed your call. If water is leaking now, turn off the main shutoff if you can safely. Reply LEAK and we'll call you right back. Reply STOP to opt out.
```

More for plumbing companies: [Plumbing marketing and AI visibility](https://damex.digital/industries/plumbing/)

### For roofing companies

Roofers miss the most calls in the days after a storm, when every crew is up and homeowners call several companies at once. Use the text to collect the address and the kind of damage, so you can route inspections sensibly. Homeowners are wary of storm chasers, so name your business clearly and skip offers. Our guide on [how roofers get found after a storm](https://damex.digital/blog/roofers-found-after-storm/) covers the rest of storm week.

**Roofing text:**

```text
Hi, it's Ridgeline Roofing. Sorry we missed your call, our crews are out after the storm. Reply with your address and what you're seeing, such as a leak or missing shingles, and we'll call to book an inspection. Reply STOP to opt out.
```

More for roofing companies: [Roofing marketing and AI visibility](https://damex.digital/industries/roofing/)

### Health practices

### For dental practices

A dental front desk misses calls while checking patients in, and many callers want to book, reschedule or ask about a toothache. Keep the text general: don't name a treatment, don't ask for symptoms and don't confirm that the caller is a patient. Ask for a good time to call and take details on the phone. Our post on whether [an AI front desk is safe for a dental practice](https://damex.digital/blog/ai-front-desk-dental/) covers the privacy questions to ask a vendor.

**Dental text:**

```text
Hi, this is Lakeline Family Dental returning your call. Our front desk will call you back today. Reply with a good time to reach you. Please don't send health details by text. Reply STOP to opt out.
```

More for dental practices: [Dental marketing and AI visibility](https://damex.digital/industries/dental/)

### For med spas

Med spa callers are often comparing providers and may call two or three places in one sitting. A quick reply keeps you in the running, but keep it informational: no promotion, no before-and-after link and no treatment claims. Treatment questions belong on the call with a qualified person. Our guide to [med spa advertising rules](https://damex.digital/blog/med-spa-advertising-rules/) explains why claims need care.

**Med spa text:**

```text
Hi, it's Willow Aesthetics. Sorry we missed your call, we're with clients. Would you like to book a consultation or ask a question? Reply with a good time and we'll call you back. Reply STOP to opt out.
```

More for med spas: [Med spa marketing and AI visibility](https://damex.digital/industries/med-spa/)

## What should the call-back routine look like?

The call-back should happen at the time the text promised, from the number the customer called, by someone who can book the job. Read the reply first, so you don't ask questions they've already answered, and log the outcome. A text-back without a reliable call-back only delays the lost lead.

- **Call from the business number.** A technician's personal mobile is an unknown number to the customer, and most unknown calls go unanswered.
- **Use the reply.** If they wrote "AC not cooling, upstairs", open with that.
- **Keep the promised time.** If you can't, text a new time before the old one passes.
- **Try twice, then stop.** One call and one follow-up text, then wait for them.
- **Log the result.** Booked, quoted, not a fit or no response. This is how you see what the text-back is worth.

Give call-backs to one named person during business hours. When everyone is responsible, nobody calls.

## When should you add an answering service or AI receptionist?

Add one when you miss more calls than your team can return within the promised time, or when many missed calls come after hours. A text-back saves the lead; answering the call saves the job sooner. The right choice depends on call volume, urgency and budget.

A text-back is the right first step for most small businesses. It runs out of road when replies pile up faster than anyone can answer them, or when callers need help now, such as a burst pipe at 9pm. We compare the options, including after-hours handling and what callers think of AI, in [AI receptionist vs answering service vs voicemail](https://damex.digital/blog/ai-receptionist-vs-answering-service/). For break-even maths, read [is an AI receptionist worth it](https://damex.digital/blog/is-an-ai-receptionist-worth-it/).

## What does a missed call cost? The maths

A missed call costs the job it would have become, multiplied by the chance the caller never comes back. Work it out from four numbers: missed calls a month, the share who don't call back, how often a call becomes a job, and your average job value. The Example below shows each step.

### Example: a two-truck plumbing company

Say a plumbing company takes 240 calls a month and misses 20% of them.

- Missed calls: 240 × 20% = 48 a month.
- Callers who don't call back: half, so 48 × 50% = 24 lost callers.
- Jobs lost: 40% of calls become a booked job, so 24 × 40% = 9.6 jobs.
- Revenue lost: 9.6 × $400 average job = $3,840 a month, or $46,080 a year.

> **$3,840.** 48 missed calls, 24 callers who never call back, 9.6 lost jobs at $400 each. That's $3,840 of work a month going to someone else. (Worked example)

### What the text-back wins back

Suppose one in three of those 24 lost callers replies to the text and books at the same 40% rate:

- Conversations saved: 24 ÷ 3 = 8.
- Jobs won back: 8 × 40% = 3.2 jobs, or $1,280 of revenue at $400 each.
- Gross profit at a 40% margin: $1,280 × 40% = $512.
- Against a $197 monthly service: $512 minus $197 = $315 a month ahead.
- Break-even: $197 ÷ ($400 × 40%) = about 1.2 saved jobs a month.

> **1.2 jobs.** At $400 a job and a 40% margin, each saved job is worth $160 of profit, so a $197 monthly service pays for itself at about 1.2 saved jobs. (Worked example)

Run your own numbers in our free [missed-call calculator](https://damex.digital/tools/missed-call-calculator/), a missed call text back calculator that shows the maths line by line and keeps what you type in your browser.

## What are the common missed-call text-back mistakes?

The most common mistakes are sending duplicates, adding offers or links, skipping A2P 10DLC registration and never answering the replies. Each one either stops the text arriving, makes it look like spam or wastes the lead it was meant to save.

1. **Sending duplicates.** A caller who tries three times gets three texts. Add a wait step.
2. **Adding an offer.** A coupon can turn an informational reply into a promotional text that needs written consent.
3. **Including a link.** Links look like the scams customers are warned about.
4. **Skipping registration.** Unregistered 10DLC texts can be blocked, and nobody notices until a customer says they got nothing.
5. **Leaving out the business name.** "Sorry we missed you!" from an unknown number reads like spam.
6. **Not answering replies.** If replies sit for hours, you've told the customer you're slow twice.
7. **Ignoring STOP.** Act on stop, quit, end, cancel and similar replies, and send nothing more beyond one confirmation.
8. **Never measuring.** Without missed calls, replies and booked jobs logged monthly, you can't tell what works.

Our [Missed calls and AI receptionist service](https://damex.digital/services/ai-receptionist/), a $197 a month add-on to any package, answers calls when your team can't, handles common questions, books jobs, and texts back any call it still misses.

- **The AI receptionist** answers your calls, texts back any it misses with a short, informational reply and a STOP line, and answers questions about hours, areas and services from your own answers.
- **Bookings and anything unusual** come to you with the conversation attached. Urgent and sensitive calls go to a person.
- **Reporting** shows missed calls, replies and jobs booked from them against your starting numbers, in a plain-English monthly report.

We don't send marketing texts to anyone without written consent. Prices are on the [pricing page](https://damex.digital/pricing/), and more guides are in the [calls and leads hub](https://damex.digital/blog/topics/calls-and-leads/).

## FAQs

### Is a missed call text back worth it?

For most service businesses, yes, if someone answers the replies. The caller has already chosen you, so winning back even one job a month often covers the cost of a text-back tool. Measure it: count missed calls, replies and booked jobs for a month and multiply booked jobs by your average job value.

### How much money am I losing from missed calls?

Multiply your missed calls a month by the share of callers who don't call back, then by the share of calls that become jobs, then by your average job value. Our free missed-call calculator does the maths line by line with your own numbers, and nothing you type leaves your browser.

### What should a missed call text say?

Your business name, that you missed their call, and one easy question, such as what they need help with or when suits them for a call back. Add a way to reply STOP. Leave out links, offers and anything that reads like a sales pitch.

### What should my missed-call text say when I'm on a job?

Say you're on a job, ask what they need and give a call-back time you can keep. For example: Hi, it's Ortega & Sons Plumbing. We're on a job and missed your call. What do you need help with? We'll call you back by 3pm. Reply STOP to opt out.

### Is it legal to text back a missed call?

The FCC says informational texts need consent that may be oral, while commercial texts need written consent. Its consumer guide doesn't say a missed call counts as consent, so keep the first reply informational, about the caller's own enquiry, with a STOP line. Rules vary by state; check with your attorney.

### Do I need A2P 10DLC registration to send missed-call texts?

If your software texts from a local 10-digit number, yes. T-Mobile says 10DLC senders must be registered before campaign messages are approved for delivery, and Twilio blocks texts from unregistered 10DLC numbers. Your texting provider handles the registration with you.

### Is a missed call text a scam?

A real one isn't, but customers are wary because text scams are common. The FTC says consumers reported losing $470 million to text scams in 2024. Make yours easy to trust: send it from the number they called, name your business in the first words and leave links out.

### Does GoHighLevel have missed call text back?

Yes. HighLevel (GHL) has a Missed Call Text Back feature. Its help article says it sends a text for every missed call, even repeat calls from the same person, and recommends adding a wait step in a workflow so a caller doesn't get several texts.

### Is there free missed call text back software?

Some phone systems and CRMs include a missed-call text in their plans, but texting is rarely free to run. Texting usually carries usage fees, and A2P 10DLC registration may carry fees too, depending on your provider. Compare the full monthly cost, including who answers the replies.

### Does missed call text back work for contractors?

It suits contractors well, because crews miss calls while they're on roofs, under sinks or in attics. The text holds the caller while the crew finishes. It works only if someone reads the replies and calls back when the text promises.

### How fast should a missed call text back go out?

Within a minute or two of the missed call, while the caller is still deciding who to try next. An automated text-back sends in seconds. A manual text sent an hour later is much less useful, because the caller has often booked someone else by then.
